Saudi Arabia is hoping an $80 billion makeover of Islam’s holiest site will boost the number of visitors able to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.

The Kingdom’s projects to increase capacity for those undertaking the Hajj include spending $3.5 billion to build the world’s largest hotel, which will feature 10,000 rooms.

Infrastructure improvements are also underway to ensure better access to the various sites, and it is hoped that an extra 20 million annual visitors can descend on Mecca by 2030.
