The Volocopter, autonomous air taxi service, had its first public test flight. Even though people have climbed in to check the drone out, the test flight was performed with no humans inside since it is still in the testing phase and precautions must be taken. This is an enormous vehicle with 18 propellers and it is able to carry 2 people. Approximate flight time is around 30 minutes thanks to the 9 batteries that power this drone. The current idea is to have a smartphone app through which you can order the Volocopter and have it pick you up at the nearest voloport. The drone will come autonomously, you just climb in and it will take you to your destination. Producers predicted that the full testing will last around 5 years and it will eventually include pilots. Future of passenger transport in Dubai lies in these kinds of vehicles and we hope to see more of them.
