The Digital Era we live in today has brought many rapid changes. In many industries, robotics are becoming more common; acting as a workforce replacement as they are not only cost effective but they can often work longer and faster.
In Dubai, they presented the world with first operational robot police officer. Robocop, as they named the latest member of the Dubai police, started his career on May 22 when it greeted guests at the 4th Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference.
Robocop is tall closely to 178 cm and it weighs around one hundred kilograms. The robot features an emotion detector, which enables it to read people’s gestures and body language. Furthermore, it has the emotional intelligence too, so it will know if the person is happy, sad or angry, since all of these emotions have facial expressions that accompany them. And, when Robocop notices some of the negative emotions, like sadness, just like most humans, it will try to make a person feel better.
In terms of fighting crime, Robocop relies on smart technologies to detect offenders. With the expansion of the internet of things, artificial intelligence, as well as facial recognition technology, the latest member of Dubai police workforce, will protect the public order. Robocop also has navigation skills which enable it to map out areas and travel independently.
The shiny, new police officer has a built-in tablet through which it can communicate with people. People can talk to it in six languages, as well as to get responses to public queries. The Robocop can also shake hands and do the military salute.
– With an aim to assist and help people in the malls or on the streets, said Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, director-general of smart services at Dubai Police, the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels.
