The UAE and Saudi Arabia have disclosed final VAT rates for food, fashion, gold, cars and other goods. The two countries will be the first to launch VAT as of January 1, 2018.

The Federal Tax Authority has composed a detailed list on supplies and sectors that will be subjected to Value Added Tax (VAT). Certain sectors such as education, healthcare, oil and gas, transportation, and real estate will be completely exonerated from taxation.

In addition, government activities concerning only public sector and activities carried out by non-profit organisations will be outside the scope of VAT. The UAE Cabinet will issue a precise list of government bodies and non-profit organisations not subject to VAT.
