In its 16th annual Year in Search, Google announced the year’s top trends based on searches conducted using the Google search engine in the UAE.

The results showed high interest in sports events, especially UEFA Euro 2016. Events such as Brexit and Oscars 2016 were the most trending, followed by Eid Al Adha and the Fly Dubai Crash.

Donald Trump, Indian actress Pratyusha Banerjee, Qandeel Baloch are among the most searched people in 2016.

Joyce Baz, Head of Communications at Google, Middle East and North Africa said:

“We always look forward to this part of the year where we share how the world searched for 2016. Year in Search is a look back at what caught the attention and curiosity of our users in the Middle East and North Africa over the past 12 months and as always, the results are diverse in the UAE,” Khaleej Times reports.
