HubSpot Ties AI Agent Pricing to Results
HubSpot is changing how it charges for two of its flagship AI agents, moving from activity-based fees to a model where customers only pay when the agent completes its assigned task.
From 14 April, Breeze Customer Agent will be priced at $0.50 per resolved conversation, down from $1.00 per conversation, while Breeze Prospecting Agent will move from a recurring monthly charge per enrolled contact to $1.00 per lead recommended for outreach.
The announcement marks one of the more direct attempts by a CRM vendor to address a persistent frustration in AI investment, which is paying for tools that don’t consistently deliver. Nearly 25% of organisations say failure to prove ROI from tech investments is a core CX challenge. Outcome-based pricing is HubSpot’s answer to that problem, at least within its own product ecosystem.
“Businesses are being asked to make big bets on AI right now. Too often, that means paying for potential rather than performance,” said Jon Dick, Chief Customer Officer at HubSpot. “Outcome-based pricing removes that risk. You pay when it works, full stop.”
It’s All About Context
The rationale for why this model is viable with Breeze agents, where it isn’t with many generic AI tools, rests on context. Breeze agents are embedded within HubSpot’s Smart CRM, which means they have access to each company’s customer data, relationship history, and business workflows before they act. Generic AI tools, the company argues, lack this and therefore can’t reliably promise consistent outcomes. Breeze Customer Agent currently resolves 65% of conversations autonomously and has cut resolution time by 39% across more than 8,000 customers. Prospecting Agent activations are up 57% quarter-over-quarter.
HubSpot originally launched Breeze Customer Agent to support service teams, but its use cases quickly expanded beyond support. Unlike standalone tools, Breeze Customer Agent is built directly into HubSpot’s unified platform to act across the entire customer lifecycle, from answering sales questions to handling support inquiries, enabling hybrid teams of humans and AI agents to work together.
The pricing change also comes with a 28-day free trial on both agents, giving Pro and Enterprise customers a window to test performance before credits kick in on 14 April. Both Breeze Customer Agent and Breeze Prospecting Agent are available to HubSpot Pro and Enterprise customers.
A Different Kind of AI Offer
The CX industry has been articulating a demand for AI agents with increasing urgency. Ninety-six percent of CX leaders believe their company’s leadership sees CX as a key driver of business outcomes, while 79% report that it is now viewed as a crucial revenue driver, which makes accountability for AI spend more important. When AI investments are expected to generate revenue rather than merely reduce costs, the ability to tie charges directly to completed tasks becomes a meaningful commercial consideration.
There are genuine questions about how “resolved” and “recommended for outreach” will be defined in practice. But the headline proposition is that if the agent doesn’t finish the job, the customer doesn’t pay. This is a different kind of offer for organisations that have accumulated AI tooling that promises much and measures little.
