CPG inventory data platform Crisp has acquired Shelf Engine, the AI wunderkind known for its razor-sharp demand forecasting and spoilage-busting algorithms.
The acquisition brings together two heavy hitters in retail tech, arming Crisp’s collaborative commerce platform with Shelf Engine’s deep-learning smarts to help grocers, CPG brands, and retailers stock smarter, sell more, and waste less.
With real-time demand predictions now baked into the mix, retailers can fine-tune inventory down to the SKU level, keeping shelves full but not overflowing.
“Retailers are in the middle of a digital reckoning,” said Crisp founder and CEO Are Traasdahl. “Shelf Engine’s AI brings us the precision and speed retailers need to thrive in an environment where every dollar and every apple counts.”
Founded to tackle one of grocery’s most expensive problems—fresh food waste—Shelf Engine built its name on predictive models that keep perishable items moving before they spoil. Now under the Crisp banner, those models will be supercharged with even more retail data, giving customers insights in real time.
For Shelf Engine co-founder Stefan Kalb, the deal is all about scale. “We’ve proven the tech works,” he said. “Joining forces with Crisp allows us to scale our technology and deliver greater value to retailers and their supplier partners.”
Almost 6,000 CPGs rely on Crisp’s retail data platform for granular sales and supply chain intelligence to grow sales and streamline operations. The company’s mission is to create a zero-waste supply chain in which every resource is used wisely.
