London Luton Airport Boosts Career Pathways for the Next Generation

Luton Airport

London Luton Airport has been doing a star turn at recent customer experience awards events.

The hard-working airport CX team took home Bronze for Best Customer-Centric Culture at last week’s International Customer Experience Awards. And at the recent UK Customer Experience Awards, they won Silver for Best CX for Vulnerable Customers and Gold for Best Customer-Centric Culture for Over 500 Employees.

The latest news from the operator is more for their employees, apprentices and future workers’ experience, with the airport joining the Aviation Industry Skills Board (AISB) to provide and shape career pathways

Building Skills and Careers at Luton Airport

The AISB is an independent, employer-led body dedicated to driving skills development in the aviation sector. Its membership includes aviation organisations across airports, airlines and ground services and sector stakeholders.

LLA’s AISB membership will add further impetus to the airport’s evolving Classroom to Careers skills development programme. Launched in 2024, the programme offers practical skills development opportunities and employment pathways for local young people and seeks to inspire the next generation of aviation talent.

Key initiatives of the Classroom to Careers programme include essential skills workshops delivered by LLA employees and an environmental education programme aimed at local primary school aged children.

The programme also underpins LLA’s apprenticeship programme that currently provides opportunities in Guest Experience, Health and Safety, Commercial, Digital Marketing and Sustainability to over 18s living within an LU1 – LU4 postcode.

Careers Taking off at Luton

Alberto Martin, Chief Executive Officer at London Luton Airport, said: “As an employer-led organisation, the AISB is driven by the needs and insights of member businesses across the aviation sector, ensuring its policies, workforce strategies and training programmes are aligned to specific industry challenges and requirements.”

“AISB membership will provide London Luton Airport with exciting opportunities to influence policy and help shape training standards and skills development initiatives. We look forward to collaborating with fellow AISB members on initiatives that can benefit our local community and the wider aviation sector.” He concluded.

Poorvi Patel, Chair of AISB, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome London Luton Airport to the Aviation Industry Skills Board (AISB). LLA’s commitment to workforce development and sustainability aligns perfectly with the AISB’s mission to shape the future of aviation skills across the UK. We look forward to their valuable contributions to help drive our strategic initiatives.”

Whatever the industry, all CX- and EX-focused firms should be looking at their future workers. Especially in such an unwelcoming career searching situation for many school and college leavers, where automation and faceless job portals can leave them feeling unwanted and uninformed about local or wider career opportunities.
