Australian banks prioritise customer experience amid digital transformation hurdles
Australian banks are accelerating digital transformation to improve customer experience, as 73% acknowledge that current offerings are underwhelming. A Publicis Sapient study reveals agility (23%) and CX (19%) are top priorities, with legacy infrastructure (64%), data access, and budget constraints (41%) cited as key barriers.
Unlike EMEA and North America, where cybersecurity leads, Australia focuses on modernising core systems and embracing AI-led transformation. Despite rising expectations—74% of Australians seek tailored services—only 21% of banks operate fully agile models. Globally, 83% of Gen Z are frustrated with traditional banking, underscoring the urgent need for more adaptive, customer-centric strategies.

Warm weather and Easter spark surge in UK consumer spending
British consumer spending rose 4.5% in April—the highest increase since June 2023—driven by warm weather and the Easter weekend, according to Barclays. Non-essential spending jumped 5.1%, with in-store spending up 6.9%. Barclays strategist Julien Lafargue noted improving sentiment, supported by the Bank of England’s interest rate cut to 4.25% and a new UK-US trade deal.
Retail sales grew 4.3% across March and April, says the BRC, with food sales up 8.2%. Online furniture and appliance purchases also rose, linked to a spike in first-time homebuyers rushing ahead of stamp duty changes implemented in April.
