DoorDash has teamed up with Wing, a residential drone delivery company, to bring autonomous aerial delivery to the Queen City for the very first time. The partnership aims to revolutionise how Charlotte residents receive meals, snacks, and essentials, delivering speed, efficiency, and a glimpse into the future of local logistics.
“Autonomous delivery will help shape the future of local logistics, and we’re proud to introduce drone delivery to Charlotte for the first time with Wing,” said Harrison Shih, head of product for DoorDash Labs. “What makes this launch special isn’t just the technology, it’s the experience. Whether it’s your favourite Panera sandwich, a savoury snack from DashMart, or a local matcha latte on DoorDash, there’s something special about watching your order arrive by air in minutes.”
Starting today, DoorDash customers within approximately a four-mile radius of The Arboretum Shopping Center in southern Charlotte can select drone delivery at checkout for a curated list of restaurants. The lineup includes a flavorful mix of local gems and national names: Curry Junction, Matcha Cafe Maiko, Joa Korean food, and Panera Bread—the first national restaurant chain in Charlotte to offer drone delivery.
This launch also marks another milestone in the growing collaboration between DoorDash and Wing, which began in Australia in 2022 and has since expanded to parts of Southwest Virginia and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Charlotte is now the latest U.S. city to benefit from this futuristic delivery model, with more neighbourhoods slated to join the service later this year.
Latest in DoorDash Labs
The drone program is the latest innovation to come out of DoorDash Labs, the company’s robotics and automation division. DoorDash Labs is focused on integrating emerging technologies that enhance convenience for customers, support local merchants, and increase opportunities for Dashers. In addition to Wing’s drone delivery, DoorDash is also working with Coco Robotics to offer sidewalk robot deliveries, as part of a broader push to build a flexible, multimodal delivery network.
Charlotte customers will also enjoy access to DashMart by Drone—a specialised version of DoorDash’s convenience offering. This service lets residents order everyday essentials like drinks, snacks, medicine, and more for ultra-fast drone delivery. In celebration of the launch, DoorDash is partnering with popular regional brands Life Raft Treats, Appalachia Cookie Co, and Cheerwine for a limited-time DashMart by Drone bundle giveaway.
