Apple expands iOS accessibility features to support diverse needs

Ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple announced major accessibility upgrades for iOS, including live captions, personal voice replication, braille enhancements, and app store “nutrition labels” listing each app’s accessible features. A revamped magnifier app, now available on Mac, aids vision-impaired users in classrooms and presentations.

The personal voice feature requires just 10 phrases and remains encrypted on-device. Apple emphasised that these features come free with devices, rejecting claims that accessibility adds cost. Experts welcomed the changes, noting benefits for students and visually impaired users, and applauded the growing focus on inclusivity in tech design.

Young people call for safer, healthier online spaces

A new survey by the British Standards Institution reveals that 46% of 16- to 21-year-olds would prefer a world without the internet. Nearly 70% feel worse after using social media, and half support a digital curfew after 10pm. Many admitted to using burner accounts, lying about their age, or impersonating others online.

Experts warn that curfews alone aren’t enough—safer, less addictive platforms are needed. Mental health concerns remain high, with 68% saying online time harms their wellbeing. Advocates stress the urgency of laws prioritising child safety over tech profits through safer design and stricter regulation.

‘Work situationships’ challenge UK employers as Gen Z job loyalty declines

Seven in 10 UK businesses report difficulties retaining Gen Z staff, with commitment issues outweighing concerns over pay, according to LHH’s new Career Barometer. Nearly half of Gen Z workers plan to switch jobs within a year, often preferring external moves for progression.

This fluid approach to work, dubbed “work situationships,” reflects casual, non-committal professional relationships. While salary still matters, 59% of employers cite lack of commitment as the top retention challenge. Experts urge HR to evolve by offering tailored learning, clearer growth paths, and leadership support to engage Gen Z and transform job-hopping into lasting partnerships.
