AI Adoption Is Saving Healthcare Providers Hours Each Day

A new survey from eClinicalWorks, the cloud-based EHR for ambulatory care, reveals a strong surge in efficiency among providers adopting artificial intelligence in their day-to-day operations. An overwhelming 90% of respondents using AI tools reported noticeable operational improvements, signalling a shift toward smarter, faster, and more effective care delivery.
As administrative tasks continue to burden clinicians, AI solutions like Sunoh.ai, Image AI Assistant, and healow PRISMA are stepping in to streamline workflows and return precious time to healthcare professionals.
Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, said, “Our goal is to democratise AI through innovative and cost-effective solutions accessible within the eClinicalWorks AI-driven EHR. It is clear from the survey results AI has contributed to significant time savings and increased efficiency, which has the potential to transform healthcare operations. It will exponentially help improve healthcare providers’ and medical staff’s quality of life, leading to better patient outcomes.”
Among the most widely adopted tools is Sunoh.ai, an AI-powered medical scribe. More than 60% of users said the tool helps them save between one and four hours every day on documentation alone. Notably, over half of the daily users also reported a moderate to significant boost in their work-life balance.
Similarly, Image AI is proving to be a major time-saver. Around 70% of those using the tool said they save 1–3 hours daily managing their fax inbox, a traditionally time-consuming part of the medical administrative load. The efficiency gains have caught the attention of non-users too—80% of respondents not yet using AI said the reported time savings motivate them to consider implementation.
For those focused on patient data retrieval, healow PRISMA’s AI Assistant is making a strong impact. Half of its users said the tool saves them between 1 and 4 hours each day by consolidating patient records from various hospitals, practices, and healthcare systems. For comparison, over 64% of respondents not using this assistant spend the same amount of time manually tracking down that information—an inefficiency AI is helping eliminate.
AI Is More Than a Trend
Beyond documentation and data retrieval, AI is starting to reshape the revenue cycle. More than half of respondents plan to adopt eClinicalWorks’ AI for Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) to uncover coding gaps, manage appeals, and streamline billing processes. About 50% expect it to directly improve their ability to spot coding errors before they become costly problems.
Communication with patients is also getting a tech-powered upgrade. The survey found that 60% of healthcare professionals are preparing to roll out healow Genie, an AI-powered contact centre solution. The majority believe it will help automate repetitive administrative tasks and enhance communication channels with patients, two longstanding pressure points in care coordination.
Recent research in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association echoes these trends, highlighting how AI technologies are not just improving workflows, but tackling core industry challenges like clinician overload and patient safety risks.
