Speeding fines hit four year high due to new digital cameras

The number of speeding fines issued to motorists by the courts in England and Wales has risen to its highest level for four years amid the rollout of a new generation of digital speed cameras. The increase has been attributed to £10,000 digital cameras that no longer require film and can operate 24 hours a day.

More than 115,000 motorists in England and Wales were issued with fines of at least £100 by magistrates last year – the highest level since the Coalition came into power in 2010, according to figures from the Ministry of Justice.
