GCXA Winners SEWA and Sharjah Municipality Launch Automatic Utility Activation for New Tenants

Renting a property in the city of Sharjah is now a much smoother process, thanks to a new digital service introduced by the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) in collaboration with Sharjah Municipality.

The two entities—both winners at the Gulf Customer Experience Awards 2025—have launched an integrated system that eliminates the need for tenants to apply separately for electricity, water, and gas services.

As soon as a lease contract is attested by the municipality, the system automatically sends a notification with the required security deposit. Once paid, services are activated without the tenant needing to take any further steps.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in Sharjah’s digital transformation journey, aligning with broader government efforts to streamline public services, reduce administrative friction, and enhance the customer experience.

Previously, tenants had to visit multiple offices, submit documents manually, and initiate service requests with SEWA. This new e-link between SEWA and Sharjah Municipality removes those steps entirely, offering a fully automated and proactive approach.

Dr. Hussein Al-Askar, director of customer service at SEWA, stated that the launch reflects Sharjah’s strategic vision of delivering smart, interconnected services. By automating the activation process, the system saves time for residents and improves operational efficiency and service quality across the board.

The project supports the UAE government’s broader objective of eliminating bureaucracy and creating a seamless digital environment for citizens and residents alike.
